Our friend Kelly of Lola-K’s Photography and Lola-K’s Boutique recently took Tank’s six month photos. Here’s some of the great photos she took of him:
Vintage Children’s Books into Journals
I’ve been so busy being a mama lately, but on those rare moments that Tank doesn’t want to eat or play I have been trying to create. Here are two new journals I made and already sold. To tell you honestly, I was sad to see the Little Indian Weaver go. I’m going to be working on my vintage book journals in the future, here’s some pictures of what to expect soon from Paper Junk on the MadeofJunk.com store.

Archie Comic Book Necklaces
I wrote previously about using my old comic collection to make something useful. I’ve been a busy little bee lately while the baby has been sleeping. Here’s what I have made so far for MadeofJunk.com

Archie Comics into Jewelry

Getting married makes you go through a lot of stuff. Having a baby makes you go through even more stuff. Thus, I am going through and selling some of my prized Archie comics. I have been collecting these comics since I was ten years old.

My collection is split between vintage giants from antique malls and new digests from the supermarket. My grandmother bought most of my collection for me from a friend. I’ve been trying to find prices online for the comics, and some of them are around $60, but nothing outrageous. Unfortunately, Archie is not as popular as Superman or Spiderman. Seems the ability to leap small buildings in a single bound is more hip with readers than a two timing red headed teenager from Riverdale.

However, all is not lost. If I can’t sell some of these, I’m going to make someone else’s collection a lot more valuable when I turn them into jewelry for PaperJunk.com.
Here are some of my first necklaces I’ve made. I’m going to have rings and bobby pin sets as well, but I photographed the necklaces first. As always, you can find all of these goodies at MadeOfJunk.com.

Mushroom Lentil Sausage Bliss
Dave and I have been enjoying some local deer sausage my cousin gave me that she and my uncle made.
We made this really easy dinner, which you could make from any sausage.
Ingredients:
-sausage, sliced after cooking or before if buying precooked
-mushroom, sliced
-cooked lentils (takes about twenty minutes to make)
-leeks, sliced
Directions:
-cook sausage if buying uncooked sausage
-sautee leeks in olive oil, added mushrooms when leeks are tender
- add sausage to pan to warm and then add cooked lentils.
-add whatever seasoning you wish the last ten minutes of cooking.
Serve on a bed of rice or with quinoa. Enjoy!

Ruffled Crocheted Bibs
I made these bibs for two new little ladies in recently from Linda Permann’s book Little Crochet: Modern Designs for Babies and Toddlers. The bib is a very simple pattern, and is actually the first thing I made. You basically make a circle, then venture off to make the strap, and travel back down the strap to make the ruffle. It’s so easy. I’ve made other patterns from her book and loved everything I have attempted.
If you have a little one in your life to crochet for, I strongly suggest you buy Linda Permann’s book Little Crochet: Modern Designs for Babies and Toddlers. I bought a lot of crochet books recently and this is by far the best one of all that I purchased. I love the diagrams, the ease of instructions, and the how-to’s. She is the easiest author to follow of any book I have tried thus far. Yes, I have a little crochet crush on her. For more by Linda Permann, you can check out her blog: LindaMade.com

Vintage Postcards
I also happen to find this scrapbook at an estate sale last month while quickly walking by a table. I saw a postcard on the front page and just grabbed the book. When I got home I found postcards more than 70 years old inside, including 4 postcards from my college! I’m so excited to use these to make something for PaperJunk.com

I have traveled over this bridge so many times on the drive from Florida to Texas I can’t even count.

I love the color in this one. It’s so vibrant and cheery.

All in all I have about 70 vintage postcards. What would you like to see done with them? Any suggestions for new products for PaperJunk.com?

Estate Sale Finds
Tank and I went to an estate sale today and found these two teapots.
The black teapot is an english teapot I believe. The lid has a large lip that would come out when you pour, which is a fault many American teapots seem to have.
The Mickey and Minnie teapot is from the 1930s. It is missing it’s lid, but I just liked it and thought it was worth the $5 they were asking for it.

I also found this fan for $3. It’s hand painted and in great condition. I’m going to use it this summer when the humidity makes you want to melt here in the southeast.

Our New Retro Table
After shopping for a while, Dave and I finally found a dining room table we love. We had a man in town that collects antiques on the look out for one for us. I didn’t get a chance to take a before picture of the table before Dave sanded and painted it, but imagine the wooded base scratched and beige and dinged-up. We decided to paint it red to match our fiesta dishes we got for our wedding.
The top of our table is enamel with a fake wood grain top.
The chairs we got with the table are in good condition, but they need to be recovered. When we were shopping for a vintage table, we knew we had to find chairs that would be stable for Tank’s highchair.
Any ideas for fabric to recover the chairs with? We’re trying to figure out what color or pattern we would like to work with.
